Renovation & addition
Winchester, MA

Site description:

Historic schoolhouse in suburban setting

Objective:

The challenge was to create a second level addition to this historic schoolhouse perched on a hill while maintaining its charm and detail. A multi-dormered roof line was designed for the addition, decreasing the scale of the added space while maintaining the quirky old character of the existing house inside and out.
At the top of the stairs of the original house are the added rooms including two additional bedrooms, and two new bathrooms. Antique pocket doors lead the way into the light-filled Master Bedroom where french doors open onto a balcony. Bead board built-ins fuse the existing space with the new while creating a central gathering hall for the family outside the bedrooms.

Elements:

·  bead board cabinetry
·  antique pocket doors
·  build-in shelf units
· bead board wainscoting
